LSR Group
Overview: LSR Group is one of the largest construction corporations in the North-West of Russia. LSR Group consists of more than 20 enterprises. They are engaged in construction and production of construction materials, and each of them is a leader in its specific market segment.
Needs: Security measures already in place included the use of contact-less (Radio Frequency Identification - RFID) HID cards which had been issued to employees for physical access control. LSR wanted to integrate the existing HID card physical access system with the computer network logon process.
MatchLogon Solution: The Aladdin eToken smart card with an internally integrated HID (RFID tracer) was selected as the base authentication token for both logical and physical access. Users were already familiar with and accustomed to using RFID based smart cards as their physical access tokens.
Computers were equipped with both a fingerprint reader and a smart card reader to allow either method of authentication. The smart card authentication required an additional PIN code to be entered thus providing two-factor authentication.
To avoid Active Directory schema extension a set of existing schema attributed (i.e. Photo, Audio) were used as an alternative to store MatchLogon data (such as enrolled fingerprints, settings, etc.)

Surgutneftegas (A Major Oil and Gas Company)
Overview: With about 96,000 employees, the Open Joint Stock Company "Surgutneftegas" (www.Surgutneftegas.ru) is a major Oil and Gas Production company in Russia. With such a large number of employees and substantial oil resources to be managed, use of Information Technology (IT) is essential to support operations. Security of IT resources is clearly a major concern.
Needs: In 2005, Surgutneftegas initiated a project to find the best solution on the market to increase their computer network security, make user authentication more convenient and minimize IT expenses related to password management.
MatchLogon Solution: The winner of this open tender, out of four candidates, was MatchLogon which met all the requirements of Surgutneftegas. Specific Results of the product deployment:
- A complete MatchLogon solution was deployed in 20 days (including fingerprint scanner devices), successfully tested and accepted. Already over 2000 users are using the MatchLogon solution and this is planned to grow to 8000 users.
- When the MatchLogon Workstation (client part of the system) is installed on a Terminal Server or Remote Server, administrators have the ability to use it for remote administration just as they would do locally on the server. The MatchLogon "Run As" command now allows administrators to run applications under their (privileged) accounts and they are authenticated using their fingerprint (or other biometric).
- The MatchLogon Software Development Kit (SDK) was used to support SAP® R/3® and this enabled fast, user friendly deployment. No software needed to be installed on the SAP servers (these include a number of platforms HP-UX, Solaris and Windows).
